I forgot the tofu in my soup last night!

  1. 6 starts with Komatsu buying Tengo a word processor for the rewrite. Komatsu teaches us the difference between talent and gut instinct. Tengo's married girlfriend cannot make their standing appointment, so he gets to work, as his ideas were *welling up like life-forms in a primordial sea*, back to sea imagery. A tedious explanation of how he rewrites. He works through the day and forgets to eat lunch, makes a good meal, dreams of sex, then back to work. After working on the processor, he continues by pencil, as the same text can be read differently on printed pages compared to digital screen. He is pleased with his work so far, and wonders if Aomame would be, too. But, she is devoid of emotion. He assumes she is the heroine of Air Chrysalis. As a 10 year old she lived in a commune assigned to look after a holy, blind goat, that dies on her watch. Her punishment was being locked up with the goat for 10 days. The Little People emerged through the corpse and taught her how to make an air chrysalis. Because of her impressive detail, Tengo assume she really lived this. Married gf calls, and they talk about her children and he listens with real interest. A converstation regarding bullying, a current event topic in today's news. He had never been bullied, but she admits to being one. It stirs up something in his past, that isn't explained. He talks to Aomame about buying a ticket, and tells her he started the rewrite. They discuss the meeting on Sunday, then she hangs up with the same indifference and lack of pleasantries, much like Komatsu. Tengo sits down to dinner.
